Inventors and engineers of automotive companies are eyeing for an all-electric-powered future. Electric Vehicles are soon to dominate the road, as per most of the automakers’ vision.
Big firms, like Tesla, started manufacturing electric vehicles in different forms such as scooters, sports cars, bus shuttles, etc. General Motors is also one of the futuristic companies with a similar objective.

Founded by William Durant on September 16, 1908, GM is an American multinational corporation, based in Detroit. Home to Cadillac, Buick, GMC, and Chevrolet and other brands alike, it ranks number 10 on the Fortune 500 list of the biggest United States corporations by over-all revenue.
Mission and Vision
In April of this year, GM has announced its intention to manufacture an electric-powered pick-up truck. Approximately a month later, they already confirmed that the e-truck is now under development.
General Motors is a pioneer in the modern era to manufacture an all-electric vehicle. GM’s 1990 Impact was the first ever four-wheel drive in the U.S. market that has zero-emissions.
GM aims to invest more in electrification and autonomous vehicle technology. The company has been going through several internal developments for almost five years now. That includes giving up on programs that are not financially beneficial anymore, like the European brand, Opel.
The automotive company also phased-out several car models, with the aim to focus their brand on heavy-duty SUVs, crossovers, and trucks. They are also pursuing an all-electric-powered lineup, including the said electric pick-up truck.
Road to All-Electric Future
GM previously released an all-electric tiny hatchback, Chevy Bolt. They have quite a reputation, as an industry-leading truck franchise but they don’t have any electric-powered trucks yet.
Chief executive officer, Mary Barra originally planned to tie-up with the electric vehicle start-up, Rivian who developed an electric-powered R1T pick-up and R1S SUV, in November of last year.
Before GM had the chance to make a move, Ford got in the way and invested $500 million in Rivian. Henry Ford’s Michigan-based American multinational automaker company also announced its plan to manufacture an all-electric vehicle with its new partner, Rivian.
There are no specific details yet whether GM will tie-up with another brand or will build an electric pick-up independently. It also hasn’t been confirmed if the electric pick-up’s model will use the body of the Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra.
All we know for now is that the electric vehicle platform, named BEV3, supports all kinds of body style.
GM foresees the release of its 20 upcoming electric vehicles by the year 2023. There’s no rush because GM wants to develop only the best electric vehicles.
