Only the kids of the 90s would be able to recognize the American comedy series entitled Bill and Ted. Starring Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves, this series was actually so loved back in the day after its very first film, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure was released in 1989.
Most kids and teens of today may not know who Alex Winter is, since he hasn’t really been active on the big screen as an actor after the said comedy film series. Keanu Reeves on the other hand had been well-known for starring at a couple of films such as Constantine, The Matrix and the John Wick franchise.
Not a lot of people actually know that he had actually started in a comedy film series back in the day since most of the roles that he had been portraying wasn’t exactly comedy material. It had long been rumored that the two will actually make yet another Bill and Ted film after almost 30 years, so continue reading to find out more about it.
Bill and Ted Franchise
Only people over the age of 25 may be familiar with the Bill and Ted Series. It is actually centered in two teenage boys named Bill and Ted, hence the title, who are aspiring musicians that happened to have created a society into the future without having an idea what exactly did they do to make them happen. It’s sequel, Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey was released in 1991 and it was also loved by all just as much as the first one.
They were joined by stand-up comedian George Carlin at that time, but he passed away in 2008. Along with the second film’s release, a one-shot comic book was also published and it was produced by Marvel Comics. The premise of the upcoming film is still a secret but it was confirmed that they are in pre-production right now.
Aside from the film series, an animated adaptation was also released in 1990. The first season had 13 episodes on it that were aired on CBS and Alex Winter, Keanu Reeves as well as George Carlin, all featured their voices on their characters. However, on the second season that contained just 8 episodes on Fox, featured none of the cast’s voices. Every single year, Bill and Ted’s live-action show was featured at the Universal Studios in Florida on Halloween Horror Nights, but that is until 2013 when it had to stop because of the allegations of racism and homophobia.
They’re Back
For years now, there have been rumors that the time-traveling comedy duo, Bill and Ted, will make a massive comeback after the success of their film series back in the 90s. It has actually been confirmed last week that Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves, will reprise their roles on the third installment of Bill and Ted.
It was actually in 2010 when Keanu Reeves actually revealed that a third installment will be happening but it was still not certain at that time so there were no details yet. A few months later Winter posted a tweet that says the script has been finished. As years went by, the plans progressed, and during the San Diego Comic-Con, Winter also mentioned that the plot may actually involve Bill and Ted having to trouble back in time instead of into the future like they always do.
This is true. @joshuahorowitz has been our most vocal public supporter as we spent the last several years working to get this beast off the ground. https://t.co/nERV3ciT7E

In 2013, Reeves revealed that they have been working on the drafts and that they were all excited. However, Winter assured the fans that it will definitely be a new movie and not just a reboot of the previous ones. Finally in 2016, in an interview with Forbes, Winter said that they have found a great director for the third installment that people have been waiting for and they will begin the pre-production process immediately.
Ed Solomon, who is one of the writers of the franchise said in an interview with Digital Spy that they have spent years and years working on a script that they are really proud of. It was difficult since people would have expectations since the franchise was a success in the 90s. They, unfortunately, had some issues when it comes to financing the film since most studios know that the first two films were only released in the United States and so it is not exactly known internationally.
