A New Way to Buy Cars in Belarus
China does not fully support crypto, yet its cars are now sold using digital currency in Belarus. A recent report by the Belarusian news outlet Office Life revealed that customers in Belarus can now purchase Geely cars with cryptocurrency.
Geely, a well-known Chinese automotive conglomerate headquartered in Hangzhou, was originally founded in 1986 as a refrigerator parts company. It shifted gears toward automobiles in 1997 and has since grown into one of the most recognizable Chinese car brands.
In 2011, Geely partnered with the state-owned manufacturer BelAZ. Together they created BelGee, a joint venture that builds cars in Belarus. This partnership opened the door for crypto-based purchases in the country.
How the Crypto Car Purchase Works
In Minsk, the capital of Belarus, a dealership named Tochka has partnered with the licensed crypto platform WhiteBird to make this innovation possible. Buyers can now pay for Geely and BelGee cars directly using cryptocurrency, with the entire process operating within the country’s legal framework.
A Tochka representative told Office Life that the service was created to align with modern drivers’ expectations, stating,
“This is not an experiment or a promotion but a full-fledged service operating within the legal framework of Belarus.”
Every model offered by Geely and BelGee is eligible for purchase using crypto, offering flexibility across the lineup.
Seamless Purchase, Fully Digital
The process is designed to be efficient and straightforward:
Step 1: Buyers confirm their preferred model and receive the price in Belarusian rubles.
Step 2: A representative from WhiteBird contacts the buyer to assist with payment. The platform provides a preferential exchange rate set explicitly for this project.
Step 3: Once the transaction is complete, the car can be delivered anywhere within Belarus or picked up directly from the showroom.
One standout feature: Buyers do not need to visit Tochka to finalize the deal. Every step can happen online.
Tochka expects up to 10% of its sales to come from crypto transactions. If the demand grows, that number may rise in the future.
