Boom Supersonic Reveals Novel Design For Overture Supersonic Jet

Shirley Higgins Jan 23, 2023

In its mission to create the world’s swiftest aircraft, Boom Supersonic’s latest jet is announced to be fitted with a brand new turbo-fan mechanism.

Blake Scholl, the company’s chief executive officer and founder, says creating an engine exclusively for Overture gives is what gives the top-class creation its edge.

With the help of the Symphony program, they are able to offer clients an airplane that is both ecologically and economically viable, which is an impossible feat given the limitations placed on derivative engines and industry standards at the moment.

To power the jet, the Denver-based company plans on using its engine that travels faster than sound itself: the Symphony engine. This production is planned between three leading companies in the top aerospace league – StandardAero, Florida Turbine Tech, and GE Additive.

A Carbon-Neutral Aeroplane

Boom is going to considerable efforts to make sure that this superfast plane takes both sustainability and sound into consideration since concerns about noise, combined with its climatic effect, significantly contributed to the death of Concorde.

According to Kathy Savitt, the company’s chief business officer and president, the goal has remained for the plane to be the first brand-new one to be created and enhanced for use with only sustainable aircraft fuel. They are also able to employ carbon complex stuff in the wings, vertical tail, and fuselage, which enables far more aerodynamics and efficiency than was possible during the Concorde era. This increases the plane’s fuel efficiency and reduces drag, which uses fuel.

United has already pledged to use 100% sustainable fuel for its Overture fleet.

Using state-of-the-art noise reduction technology, the company will ensure significant sound reduction in the aircraft. The CBO explains that the inclusion of a 4th engine will also add to the successful implementation of this feature.

United claims to have worked very hard to make sure that landings and takeoffs are as quiet as possible—if not quieter—than those of any other long-haul aircraft departing from any airport. And so far, they seem to be successful.

Highly Anticipated

Since the last Concorde flight, it has been over 20 years.

Following that, a number of businesses have attempted to revive supersonic flights, but to no avail. Boom Supersonic, however, is making significant strides in its mission to reinstate such air travel.

The company has revealed a significant novel blueprint for this highly awaited aircraft, which is rumored to possess double the speed of its commercial counterpart. The estimated release date of the aircraft is 2029.

As for the XB1 – its prototype – the news of its release came nearly 2 years ago.

The British aeronautical expo, the Farnborough Air Show earlier this month also saw to a press briefing for the same where the Overture’s details were publically revealed.

The modified blueprint has a second engine in addition to gull wings and a curved fuselage.

Over the past few years, efforts to increase the speed of commercial airplanes have picked up steam.
