Behind Luxury Cars, Gigantic Mansions, and a Successful Football Career, Adrian Peterson is in a Serious Financial Debt

Ami Ciccone Nov 08, 2019

Living on Earth becomes more and more expensive these days. The basic salary of an average employee is barely enough to sustain a comfortable lifestyle. But what most people don’t know is that even the celebrities who earn millions of dollars face financial problems as well.

Adrian Peterson is in Debt

Despite his successful career, Adrian Peterson is struggling financially

One of the world’s fastest footballers Adrian Peterson, for instance, earns more or less $100 million, but still considers himself broke. Behind all the luxury cars and lush residences, some famed individuals like him are buried in debts.

Over the course of two years, Peterson had faced not just one, but three lawsuits. The first one was due to a defaulted $2.4 million loan that he took in 2016. The 34-year-old NFL superstar changed his mind after five months since he availed the loan, causing him a lawsuit filled in October 2017.

The court in Minnesota ordered him to pay his outstanding balance of $600,000 to settle the lawsuit against him.

I guess it’s true that old habits die hard. To save himself from his other debts, he loaned another $5.2 million from a businessman in Pennsylvania, putting him in a deeper hole. His intention was good, but it resulted in a $6.6 million debt because of legal charges and interest. That’s a twenty-seven percent difference compared to the initial $5.2 million he borrowed.

He Trusted the Wrong People

Adrian Peterson’s family said he was buried in debt because people took advantage of him

According to his lawyer, Chase Carlson, Peterson was just a victim as well. People took advantage of his kindness and desperation to solve his financial struggles. They declined to share further details until they settle all the legal matters but promised to provide more information in the future.

Adrian Peterson’s Career

Adrian Peterson is currently playing for the Washington Redskins where he signed a two-year contract

So far, Washington Redskins’ running back generated $99.22 million since he started his professional career in 2007.

He’s currently under a two-year contract with the Washington Redskins worth $5.03 million, including a $1.5 million signing bonus. However, he wouldn’t be able to get even a single cent from that until September.

Once he received his paycheck, Peterson would be able to aid at least a small percentage of his financial problem.

Although he might need a larger source of income to pay off his debts completely, his family is supporting him in facing this battle. Perhaps a big brand endorsement deal would be a major help.

The good news is, he has a bright future ahead of his NFL career. He currently ranks eighth all-time in rushing yards and holds the highest record in rushing touchdowns among all active players. As long as he keeps on working hard and avoid more loans, he should be good to go.
