On July 28, 2019, the YouTubers Jake Paul and Tana Mongeau tied the knot in Las Vegas, and their wedding reportedly cost $500,000.
Due to the impulsive decision, people began questioning the legitimacy of their marriage and gathered proofs of evidence to confirm whether it was fake. Several reports claimed that the wedding was just a publicity stunt, but the couple denied all the allegations.
Jake Paul and Tana Mongeau’s $500,000-Wedding
Paul and Mongeau are undeniably one of the most popular media personalities nowadays. YouTube vloggers like them are known to spend a lot of money to create a unique, hilarious, and extraordinary content.
However, a lavish private jet, fancy wedding cakes, a huge mansion, a specially-made imitation of Jon Snow’s sword from HBO series Game of Thrones, and a star-studded guest list seemed too much for a prank. Or is it?
Was it Just to Make More Money?
MTV did live coverage of the wedding ceremony so fans could be part of the celebration through the app Halogen for $50. They were able to gather 70,000 people who paid and watched Paul and Mongeau’s nuptials on their mobile devices. Although, a lot asked for a refund due to the substandard quality of the footage and latency.
While the newly-weds looked head-over-heels with each other during the span of their whirlwind relationship, their unconventional set-up and fast-phased transitions raised speculations that their marriage is fake.
More questions arose when they left their party early and separately. Mongeau answered via Twitter explaining that she had an urgent family matter to attend to, while her husband needed to catch a flight to Europe with his brother Logan. She also said that she couldn’t wait to follow him there right after she dealt with her personal emergency.
The Officiator Doesn’t Have a License
As desperate as it sounds, a Twitter user did a little digging on the local government database and hasn’t found any legal documents such as a marriage license in Nevada where the YouTube couple exchanged vows.
Another report said that Armani Izadi who solemnized the wedding doesn’t even have a license to officiate the ceremony.
Against All Odds
Despite all the rumors, the couple expressed their love and affection for each other on their respective Instagram accounts with romantic wedding photos. Mongeau also told the cynics that whether they believe their wedding is real or not, her love for her partner won’t change.
They admitted that everything happened so fast and their story was bizarre, but they are grateful to face another chapter of their lives together. They haven’t been able to spend a single day as a married couple yet, so everyone is waiting for their honeymoon updates.
