Paul Ryan Warns Republicans About Democrat’s Majority

Ami Ciccone Jun 20, 2022

Last week, the New York Times reported that the Republicans are concerned about Trump’s efforts towards 2018 midterm elections. It was also said in the report that many GOP leaders warned Trump about how destructive the November could be for the Republicans and the cases running against Trump could prove to be a final nail in the coffin of Republicans. The house speaker, Paul Ryan warned the president that if Republicans lose, then there will be only one person to be blamed and that’s Donald Trump. He said this during a gathering in White House.

The Republicans lawmakers have told the president that they will ignore all the scandals and misdeeds of him but fear that Democrats won’t do the same. In a statement released by House Speaker, Ryan said that the coming elections will expose the Trump administration. He further said that if the Republicans lose possession of either Senate or House, the responsibility would be on the president.

There aren’t many political leaders who would say that legislative system has worked fine since the GOP took the control. The American history had witnessed two parties sharing the White House many times before. But Ryan said that if Republicans had to share D.C with Democrats, the whole system would shut down. The House Speaker gave the statement due to the fact that if Democrats gave any possession in the Senate, then they would take actions against the president in the cases in which the president was held accountable.

The party with the majority in either House or Senate has the authority to appoint the Chairman of Committees. And the chairman then further deals with the all the affairs related to legislation. As the Republicans were in command this year, the Democrat had accused them of not dealing Russia meddling properly.

Ryan gave this statement as he wanted the voters of Republicans to back the president and promote the slogan “Vote GOP in 2018”. When Trump took charge, a reporter for the New York Times David Leonhardt wrote that having an anti-democrat president is too dangerous for the United States. He further said that the many congress members think that Trump’s approach is wrong but they never pointed it out and never gave their opinion on the questions asked about Trump’s policy. These politicians duck such questions and look the other way, said Leonhardt, and by doing so they are putting the United States at risk.

According to an American journalist Ezra Klein, for now, the question is not what the Trump does but the question is what the Congress does. The opinions of both Leonhardt and Klein end on the same note that the threat to American’s governance and to Trump’s candidacy can be stopped if the Congress start supporting Trump and its policies.

However, Trump is not adhering to any of these threats made by the Republicans leaders. Even many Trump supporters are saying that the ineligibility of the president for not listening to these threats can cause a major upset for the Republicans in coming midterm elections. The states like Arizona and Florida where Trump had a weak possession could pose a serious threat to the Republicans incumbents. During a dinner with the president, the Republicans leader Mitch McConnell advised Trump to take the coming elections seriously. He said that Trump had a major role to play in the November elections and the future of the party is linked to the policies of the president. McConnell also said that their one-seat majority in US Senate was also in trouble.

The threats didn’t stop here as the US House legislative liaison, Marc Short said that the House of Republicans is everything but hapless. On this, the president replied that “this is not going to happen”. Trump was warned on multiple times by his allies but he seemed to be impulsive on every occasion.

The advisors of Trump said that the president is expected to start a fund-raiser in coming months and also planned to rallies with the candidates in the summer. But there is nothing other than this and Trump advisor are divided over the saying that from where the president would start the election campaign.
