Tesla and Mercedes have both moved to stop touchscreen video games in moving cars. These two car companies are the latest automakers to ban such use of their infotainment systems, following Volvo’s announcement earlier this year.
Tesla
The Tesla Model 3, which starts at $35k and has a range of 220 miles per charge, is Tesla’s most affordable model yet and was designed for mainstream electric vehicle adoption with minimal compromises on features or performance.
The Tesla Model S sedan offers more than 325 miles of range and can seat up to seven passengers; it costs about $80k before incentives or gas savings (estimated at $20k over five years) are figured in. Tesla also manufactures the Tesla Model X, an $80k electric SUV that can seat up to six adults and travel about 250 miles on a charge.
Tesla designs and builds electric vehicles as well as renewable energy storage systems for homes and businesses using proprietary technology developed by Tesla engineers. As of March 2018, Tesla offers three car models with a number of option packages.
Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes-Benz has now joined Tesla in banning their touchscreen infotainment systems while the vehicle is moving. While Tesla plans to offer an over-the-air update, Mercedes will require customers to bring their vehicles into dealerships for installation so that technicians can ensure it’s done properly.
